Let Us Praise Him
SATB choir, unaccompanied
Negro Spiritual
This little-known spiritual is located in the Religious Folk-Songs of the Negro as Sung at Hampton Institute edited by R. Nathaniel Dett in the section titled “Hymns of Praise.” In a similar tradition as different collections of spirituals, this tune is set in homophony. The opening melody may be sung using the text or as a hum by the full choir in unison or a solo. Additionally, a soloist may sing either verse while the choir hums using additional repeats as necessary.
